Our Story and Purpose

Behind MarkMUN

Markham Model United Nations (MarkMUN) is a high school Model United Nations conference taking place this fall in the city of Markham, Ontario. Initially formed as a cooperative event between Model UN executives from Pierre Elliott Trudeau HS and St. Augustine CHS, our organization seeks to provide a beginner-friendly conference with input from the entire Markham community and beyond. As a not-for-profit organization, we aim to produce a quality Model UN experience while giving back to the global community through charitable endeavors!

Our Vision

Markham Model United Nations seeks to unite the Model United Nations clubs at Markham secondary schools through a single conference experience. As is with most Model United Nations, this organization will strive to embody a debate experience similar to that of the United Nations General Assembly. The organization was also developed as a body for cooperation between Model United Nations in the Markham community, particularly those operating at educational institutions in the city. The organization aims to fulfill both purposes while providing a fun and interactive platform for student achievement, critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork.

Beginner-Friendly

MarkMUN’s role as the largest student-ran conference in York Region is to provide opportunities that Model UN offers to beginners. The conference emphasizes the importance of engaging students in the power of their own creativity and voice through various committees that may spark their interests. Each committee has its own unique features, including real-time world affairs, fictional media and historical events. The conference stimulates an experience that every type of delegate can enjoy. MarkMUN also creates a strong foundation for community building through impactful and insightful debate, along with a way for novice delegates to build new connections.
