The Day the Skies Turned Dark: Operation Unthinkable (JCC)
Committee Description:
"The war is won, but peace undone, A hidden plan, a loaded gun. Allies smile with blades behind, another war, of a different kind."
Germany has fallen. Europe lies in ruins. But beneath the ashes of the Second World War, a darker scheme has emerged. Winston Churchill’s secret directive: Operation Unthinkable. Its objective? To drive the Soviet Union and its Red Army out of Europe and prevent communism’s influence from shaping the minds of the vulnerable population. With the Third Reich defeated and the world hanging in fragile balance, Churchill and his allies begin to fear their former partner more than their former enemy. Behind closed doors, a preemptive strike against the USSR is being plotted to preserve Western power. But the plan has leaked, and the Cold War threatens to ignite into open conflict. Two war councils, once united, now stand on the brink of betrayal, invasion, and possibly nuclear war. Will the West stop the Red tide? Or will the symbol of freedom be buried beneath the Iron Curtain?
Committee Directors

David Setareh
Hello everyone! I'm David Setareh, Director for The Day The Skies Turned Dark: Operation UNTHINKABLE! at MarkMUN 2025. I'll be in Grade 12 and this marks my second year in Model UN. I've staffed many other conferences and committees before and I always do love this side of MUN. Operation UNTHINKABLE was chosen as it is one of my greatest interests in both war committees and personal freedoms where there is no predetermined winner or loser and the committee can run deep into the lore. This committee blends the strategic tension of historical what-ifs with the creative colony-building I’ve always envisioned. From selecting survivors to expanding your foothold in a fractured world, your creativity and engagement will shape our story. I can’t wait to see what you bring to the table at MarkMUN 2025!

Maddix Huffman
Hi, my name is Maddix Huffman, and I will be one of your Co-Directors for The Day the Skies Turned Dark: Operation Unthinkable (Joint Crisis). I’m a senior at St. Augustine High School, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to this intense and immersive historical simulation. As someone with a deep interest in military history, diplomacy, and global strategy, I’m especially excited to explore one of the most gripping “what if” scenarios of the early Cold War. Throughout this crisis, you’ll be challenged to think critically, act decisively, and engage in high-stakes diplomacy as tensions rise between former allies.

Michael Giuliani
Hello delegates! My name is Michael Giuliani and I will be a Grade 12 student at St. Theresa of Lisieux in September 2025. I will be co-directing: The Day the Skies Turned Dark: Operation Unthinkable, along with David Setareh, Maddix Huffman, and Nicholas Lee. While I only started Model UN last year, I have quickly become experienced with various conferences attended, awards won, and chairing positions. The setting of this committee is after WW2, yet before the fall of the Soviet Union. Delegates will be challenged with strategizing with their allies to benefit their respective sides in this conflict. I am honoured to be a part of MarkMUN 2025 and can’t wait to bring you all a thrilling committee!

Nicholas Lee
Hi! I’m Nicholas, and I’m honored to be directing in MarkMUN 2025. I’ve been part of Model UN for exactly a year now, and while I am not someone with a big voice or a million awards, I’ve come to really love the pace, the unpredictability, and the creativity that crisis committees bring out in people.
I wouldn’t call myself a history buff or a future diplomat - I’m just someone who enjoys watching people think fast, argue hard, and pull off insane plot twists under pressure. MUN isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about being clever with what you do know - and that’s the kind of environment I enjoy.
When I’m not involved in MUN, I’m probably just keeping things low-key - scrolling through reels at 2 am, spacing out, or trying to pretend I didn’t procrastinate on everything. I’m not the loudest person in the room, but I’m always watching and always excited to see people bring something original to the table.
Looking forward to this year's MarkMUN. Let’s make it chaotic (in a good way).
